| Booking an appointment for a coil fit | 26/2/2009 | | | | | Your appointment will be a 20 minute appointment with Dr Morgan or Dr McCarthy and a practice nurse. Please let us know in advance if you are unable to attend your appointment.
Copper coils (the IUD) can be fitted during the first 2 weeks of your cycle – from the end of a period until mid-cycle. So if you have a 28 day cycle from the end of a period to day 14.
Hormonal coils (the IUS or Mirena) are best fitted at the end of your period. They can only be fitted later in your cycle if you have not had sex since the end of your period (even with a condom), or are using another reliable method of contraception, for example the pill. If you are on the pill please continue to take it until 7 days after your coil has been fitted.
6 weeks after your coil has been fitted please make an appointment to see the doctor who fitted your coil for a check-up.
Smears can be taken, if due, at the time of your coil fit or the check-up appointment.
If you have any questions about when your appointment should be, please book a telephone appointment with Dr Morgan before your appointment. |
