Travel Vaccinations

BACK TO MAIN INDEX

Please be advised that we will not be in a position to offer last minute travel vaccinations and are availability will be limited to set clinics in order to best support other NHS services to support urgent health needs.  Further, we do not provide prescriptions for anti-malarial or private vaccinations. If you require vaccinations we suggest you refer to Fit for Travel Website (https://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/home) with regards to the countries you are travelling too.

If you require travel vaccinations prior to a holiday then please see our process below:

The following vaccinations are commonly required for many holiday destinations, and are free of charge on the NHS.

  • Diphtheria, tetanus & polio (combined)
  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid

These can be administered by our Travel Immunisation Nurse, Clare, here at the surgery.

When you first enquire, our Care Navigator team will ask you if you know which vaccinations you require. If you are unsure, we can give you a print out of your immunisation history and then you can use the NHS Fit For Travel website to work out whether further immunisations are required. You can then book into a Travel Imms slot with us. We run a clinic fortnightly on a Thursday morning. This is the only time slot we offer, so if you are unable to make these appointments, you will have to go elsewhere.

Other vaccinations, such as Yellow Fever, may be necessary depending on your travel destination. We are unable to offer this, and therefore you would need to go to other travel clinics, such as NOMAD. There will be a charge for these.

We strongly advise you to check your requirements at least three months before travel, as sometimes a course of up to three vaccinations needs to be given over the course of several weeks.

It is your responsibility to ascertain which vaccinations (and, if relevant, anti-malaria tablets) you need, and also to inform yourself fully of recommended travel safe precautions. To do this, you should visit the NHS Fit For Travel website and read the information relevant to the country you are visiting.
