Following on from recent news and social media speculation about NHS Digital and data sharing and as a number of posts in circulation on social media about the national data-opt-out are incorrect, we thought it may be helpful to provide some key information and links to help you with your decision making.

If you are submitting a Type 1 opt-out for to us please be aware that the previous deadline of the 1st of September 2021 for submissions has now been removed. Data extractions will not take place until the ability to delete data if someone choses to opt-out of sharing infromation (even if it has already been uploaded) can be implemented and not until patients have been made mroe aware of the scheme through a campaign of engagement and communication.
Although, sometimes information about your health and care does help the NHS to improve individual care, speed up diagnosis, plan your local services and research new treatments, you still have the option to decline sharing data that goes beyond the provision of your direct care.
